The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) presents the 2008 season of Alfresco Fridays. The popular outdoor concert series couples live music with wine for a great kickoff to the weekend. Concerts take place every Friday at 6:00 P.M. from June 13-20, July 11-25, and August 1-15 at the Arts Festival Plaza, located between the El Paso Museum of Art and the Plaza Theatre. This year's season will feature Reggae, Latin, Country, Blues and more. Admission is free.

The Daffodil Festival features live music, entertainment, a wonderful food court, games, balloons, and face painting. Local health and service organizations sponsor displays and artists and craftsmen will also display their work. This year's entertainment includes local youth groups, and a harmonica and country music act. As always, there will be door prizes and a raffle. The event runs from about 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., with an auction at 1 p.m. In 2003, 78th Texas Legislature declared Round Rock the Daffodil Capitol of Texas.

Downing, with his flirty, up-tempo style and mid-tempo ballads, is known as the "prince of sophisticated soul." The Mankind Assisting Students Kindle Educational Dreams (MASKED) event has generated more than one million dollars for the University and featured artists such as Regina Belle, Jennifer Holliday, Najee, and Pieces of a Dream. In addition, celebrity guest appearances from Earvin "Magic Johnson, Judge Mablean Ephriam, and Emmanuel Lewis have headlined the University's signature event.

Top Steel Guitars players from TEXAS, Nashville, and around the World!! Steel guitars in concert all weekend with a fantastic backup band!! 2009 seminars were a big hit and the TSGA continues to arrange new educational opportunities for our Jamboree attendees. A Resonator Guitar Seminar for Pedal Steel Players, was held with reso and steel great, Mike Auldridge, and resonator builder, Carroll Benoit. Peterson Tuners was available with Sue Haslem for one-on-one questions on tuners. Doug Jernigan provided the '09 seminar with instruction for beginner to advanced students. Our 2010 seminar will be presented by the amazing Joe Wright teaching steel guitar knowledge and technique. Jim Baron, the guru of Band-in-a-Box, continues to provide seminars in BIAB, in one-on-one or group session. The Friday Night Jam Session is organized by the great Louie Hallford. To register for the jam session, send him an email and he'll get you on the program. Space is limited, so don't delay!! The Non-Pedal Session with Jeff Strouse and friends has grown by leaps and bounds. Join them to celebrate Non-Pedal guitar. Saturday Night set by Johnny Bush!! The "Country Caruso" once again will perform a set of his classic material. Enjoy the Texas dance with great Western Swing!! Talent night with Bobby Bowman and Charles Tilley, Thursday evening. The Young Texas Artists 25th Annual Music Competition for Voice, Piano, Strings, Wind, Brass, Harp, Guitar and Percussion will be held March 11-13, 2010 in Conroe, Texas near Houston. This is a classical music competition for ages 18-30. A three-day event ending with a concert of finalists the evening of Saturday, March 13th, to select the grand prize winner and the Audience Choice Award. We will award over $ 21,000 in prizes . Participants will receive written critiques from five prestigious judges. Preliminary rounds, which are free and open to the public, begin Thursday morning, March 11 and continue through Saturday afternoon. The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, Inc. chartered in 1940, is a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to help educate and develop young people, particularly in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, in the care, grooming, management, showing and marketing of livestock. Funds to operate the Show come solely from donations, revenues realized from gate, carnival receipts, commercial exhibit rental, entry and concession fees. Hundreds of volunteers from throughout Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy and Starr Counties, working without any financial compensation whatsoever, make the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show possible.

The South by Southwest Music and Media Conference (SXSW) is a professional meeting held every March in Austin for members of the regional, national, and international music industry. The daytime sessions--attended by more than 11,000 registrants includes scores of panels, workshops and other meetings covering relevant music industry topics and issues as well as a large industry trade show exhibition. Evenings are devoted to the SXSW Music Festival, which showcases some 1500 acts -- from unsigned hopefuls to rising major label acts. The festival and conferences are broken into three parts, Interactive on March 12-16, Film on March 12-20 and Music on March 17-21.

Luminaria is San Antonio’s annual day- and evening-long celebration of the city’s artists, musicians, performers and cultural organizations. The Annual River Dyeing Parade will be held during the 2nd weekend of March. The fun will begin at the Arneson River. At 1:00pm about six barges full of happy people will start winding down the San Antonio River through town. Behind the barges can be seen the bright green water making the San Antonio River, "The River Shannon" for the day. At the Arneson River Theater the barge people will disembark and the official ceremony will begin. There will be bagpipes, color guards, proclamations, speeches, bands and an Irish sing along. The Paseo del Rio Association and the Harp and Shamrock Society of Texas jointly bring this event to the citizens of San Antonio.

The Austin Record Convention is the largest sale of recorded music in the USA. There is more music and related memorabilia available here, at one time, than anywhere else. Ranging from the 78s of the 1930s to the latest compact discs of today, over one million 78s, 45s, LPs, CDs, cassettes, posters and collectibles (probably even a few 8-track tapes!) are in the auditorium. Over 300 different dealers from all over the USA and Europe are spread out over 50,000 square feet of floor space. The show is so big that to see everything takes most of the weekend, so if you're in a hurry we have search announcements at 12, 2, and 4 o'clock from the concession area to help in locating specific items. The show brings together collectors and dealers from all over the world for a weekend of activity in Austin. Early Shopper Admission: $25.

The Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival features the best in unsigned talent that Austin and the surrounding southwest region have to offer, as well as some of the best indie artists from across America and beyond. Launched in March 2000, the first Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival started humbly with one venue and sixteen bands in downtown Austin. Now in its 11th year, the 2010 Texas Rock Fest will boast hundreds of indie acts on four downtown outdoor stages. For the eighth straight year, a stellar lineup of Texas Musicians will gather in downtown Luling, Texas to celebrate the life of Tom B. Webb, IV and his love of music. Proceeds from this day of music and celebration benefit the Tom Webb Memorial Scholarship Fund. Webb, an aspiring Texas musician, lost his life in an automobile accident in December of 2001 at the age of 16. Additional information and an artists' roster can be found at www.celebratetom.com.
