"Band Extravaganza" is the largest single annual music event in Lubbock. It features performances from each middle school band program and the marching shows from each high school. Guest performances by the Wayland University Band and the Texas Tech Goin' Band add to the excitement. The 30th Annual Wimberley Gospel Music Festival will begin on Friday, October 9 from 5-10pm and continue through Saturday, October 10 from 11am-10pm. Cowboys for Jesus will host the festival at their location in Fischer, Texas, just outside Wimberley. Returning to the festival this year will be The Bailey Family, Victoria; Blue Creek, LaVernia; His Way Quartet and Southern Praise, Austin; Song of Glory, Ingleside; White Dove, Tomball; Gene & LaVada Triesch, Blanco; The Steve Boatwright Band, Elgin; Cowboys for Jesus, Fischer; and Wimberley's own Jim Henderson. Concessions will be available. Admission to the event and parking are free, and chairs will be available, or you can bring your comfortable lawn chairs. The Austin Record Convention is the largest sale of recorded music in the USA. There is more music and related memorabilia available here, at one time, than anywhere else. Ranging from the 78s of the 1930s to the latest compact discs of today, over one million 78s, 45s, LPs, CDs, cassettes, posters and collectibles (probably even a few 8-track tapes!) are in the auditorium. Over 300 different dealers from all over the USA and Europe are spread out over 50,000 square feet of floor space. The show is so big that to see everything takes most of the weekend, so if you're in a hurry we have search announcements at 12, 2, and 4 o'clock from the concession area to help in locating specific items. The show brings together collectors and dealers from all over the world for a weekend of activity in Austin. Early Shopper Admission: $25.

The Austin String Band Festival takes place in October and features workshops and bands performing in various styles of string band music: Bluegrass, Old-time, Cajun, Latino, and other types of string band music. The site is Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood, just outside of Austin. It is a weekend festival and participants are invited to camp Friday and Saturday nights, and to play music together around the festival grounds when they are not in the Pavilion watching the stage show. The festival begins with a concert Friday night, a full day on Saturday with music workshops Saturday morning, a concert Saturday afternoon and evening; the festival ends with a gospel jam session on Sunday morning. 5 bands perform Friday evening, 10 bands perform on the main stage Saturday, and a number of other bands perform mini-sets on a second stage.

Pronounced "Chili-Spill," Czhilispiel is Flatonia's premier tourism festival and second largest "czhili" cook-off in Texas, and always held the 4th weekend of October. Participants are judged in a variety of food categories: czhili, BBQ, and beans. In 2009, it's estimated that around 10,000 visitors attended the festival. In 1973, Flatonia celebrated its Centennial with Czhilispiel. The Czechoslovakian Ambassador to the US visited Flatonia and a historical marker was erected downtown, commemorating Flatonia's history during Czhilispiel 2. Three days of live music! The Hogeye Festival entertains approximately 20,000 people with outstanding musicians, handmade arts and crafts, creative children's activities, a costume children's parade, a Hogeye Hoedown, and an art show. The festival is held in our historic downtown on Main Street surrounded by beautifully restored buildings dating back to 1890. This year's event offers a diverse musical experience. The event focuses on a family atmosphere where children of all ages are able to come out and enjoy good clean fun. Activities for kids include a "Kids Zone" with moon walks, rock wall, face painting, pony rides, smoke/safety house and much more. Along with all the great music enjoy Arts and Crafts booths, the aromas of funnel cakes, sausage, BBQ, fajitas and cold drinks freshly prepared by our vendors. Because we offer a wide variety of food and beverage at the event, no food, beverage or glass containers will be permitted at entry at the gates.

The Annual Yamboree Fiddler's Contest is a fiddling contest that has been held for more than 60 years. The age division for contestants are 0-12,13-35, 36-59, 60 and older. Accompanist contest takes two top fiddler, who then compete for the grand championship prize.

The 7th annual O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat will be held October 29-31, 2010 at the Hoblitzelle Camp and Conference Center in Midlothian, Texas, about 30 minutes south of Dallas. Classes will be offered in fiddle, flute, whistle, guitar (standard, dropped-D & DADGAD), piano, bodhran, harp, uilleann pipes, button accordion (C#/D & B/C), piano accordion, concertina, tenor banjo, bouzouki, mandolin and Gaelic singing. Enrichment classes teaching Irish music history or exploring Irish music today will also be offered. A special class program just for young players ages 6-10 will be organized. An exceptional lineup of instructors will teach including such great players as John McEvoy (fiddle), Kevin Burke (fiddle), Oisin Mac Diarmada (fiddle), Tom Creegan (uilleann pipes), John Wynne (flute), Sean McElwain (guitar), Grainne Hambly (harp), Darren Maloney (tenor banjo), Michael Black (singing) and John Nolan (button accordion). They will be joined by 22 other respected teachers from throughout the U.S.
