The 34th annual Salmon Lake Park Bluegrass Festival begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday and ends at 5 p.m. Sunday. Eleven bands perform on an outdoor stage under beautiful shade trees during a 45-minute set. Bluegrass bands consists of banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and dobro. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy 25 hours of good bluegrass music. Salmon Lake Park Bluegrass Festival is an outdoor event featuring Saltgrass, Marksmen, Louisiana Grass, Bill Grant, Nothin' Fancy, Shady Grove Ramblers, Gillett Brothers, Coleman Brothers, Gold Wing Express, Welch Mountain, Appointed Triple "L", and others. Kerrville Wine and Music Festival is a music festival which presents 35 songwriters and the products of a dozen Texas winemakers. Music lovers with an appetite for tasty blues and mouth-watering barbecue will find the 2009 City of Bedford Labor Day Blues & BBQ Festival a feast for the senses. The two-day event returns Sept. 4-5 with blues music. The line-up includes: The Chris Watson Band, The Joe Jonas Band, The Tejas Brothers, Omar and Howlers, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and The Holland K. Smith Band. The stage isn't the only place that's smoking during the two-day festival. Pit masters can compete for $10,000 in prize money in Bedford's first cook-off sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. Entry forms and complete details can be found on the event web site: www.bedfordbluesbbq.com. The outdoor event is 2 to 11 p.m. each day at 1613 Hospital Parkway in Bedford, at the intersection of Highway 121 and Airport Freeway. Daily general admission lawn seating is $5.00. Limited reserved seats that include general admission are available for $10 and may be purchased online beginning April 13. Lawn chairs and blankets are permitted. Coolers, pets, tape recorders, and flash and video cameras are not allowed. On-site parking is $10.00. Free parking at nearby Pennington Field football stadium is a short walk from the festival site.

The National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration hosts 150-200 performers and participants (poets, musicians, storytellers, panelists, cooks and special presenter) for the 22nd annual event on September 9-12, 2010 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Its purpose remains to celebrate, preserve and pass along our western heritage and cowboy culture for those who know and love it, and for those who have never known it before to learn from and enjoy it as well. To carry out these goals, the event schedule includes musical entertainers, poetry and storytelling, western writers/authors panels, film and movie seminars, horse handling demonstrations, a parade, a full blown Native American Indian Pow Wow, chuck wagon cook-off, and exhibits of western artworks and merchandise. Our event features more than 80 cowboy and cowgirl poets, 70 or more musical acts, 30 or more storytellers, more than 200 exhibit spaces filled with the best in western art and goods, more than 30 chuck wagons and other special presenters. This event also includes the American Cowboy Cultural Awards Show and the National Championship Chuck Wagon Cook-Off.

Texas GATORFEST is truly the most unique festival in the state, combining the alligator and family fun for a good old Texas two-stepping good time! Ongoing demonstrations will reveal the wide range of intricate skills, techniques, and tricks used by metalworkers to transform raw metal into fine art, jewelry, furniture, folk art and functional everyday objects. These demonstrations will include metal working processes that have been handed down through the ages, as well as materials and methods from the space age. Items vary from sophisticated to practical to radical and everything in between! Waterfest at Willow Grove is all about water sports, free kid's activities, live music, exciting exhibitors and great food & drinks! The national boat and jet ski racing competition, SuperCourse Nationals, will take place all weekend. Willow Grove Park on Lewisville Lake hosts the Super Course nationals Jet Ski racing competition on Sat. Sept. 11th and Sun. the 12th. Saturday headlining entertainemtn will be the Texas Gypsies, who combine gypse jazz, western swing, pop with a 30s and 40s sound. Sunday will feature other local artists. What is Pickin' in the Pines? If you ask a musician that question, they will tell you it's "An Acoustic Jam Fest". This is the musically correct explanation. Music fans that attend year in and year out will tell you it's even more then that. It could also be called "Pickin', Campin', Vistin', Barbecuin', Story Swappin', Relaxin', Sippin', Strollin', and Listenin' in the Pines. It's a weekend event, so most folks arrive with tents or self-contained camper trailer and it's BYOB. Guitar, flute, banjo, harmonica, fiddle, and mandolin are just a few of the instruments to enjoy and sing along with. Bring your own instrument of choice or just come and be a fan. Greenhorn campers enjoy a hot water shower and restroom for the guys and gals. If you can't camp out, you're still welcome to "come and go" just for Friday and/or Saturday night concerts if that is your preference.

The Burleson County Fair is an old-fashioned fair featuring five days of fun and entertainment with a variety of local good food. The fair kick-off is a parade with Queen candidate floats, school bands, civic organizational floats, horses, and other entries. Attendees may watch the Junior Livestock shows, showmanship contests, Little Miss and Queens Contest, and visit the Creative Living Exhibits which include bake goods, crafts, handiwork and more. Murphy's new annual festival, Murphy Maize Days, will be held September 24th and 25th, 2010. The Community Events Committee, appointed by City Council and charged with organizing community events, took off with the idea of a corn festival, and Murphy Maize Days was born! The festival will include concerts, a car show, kids activities, food, and fireworks. The City also plans to develop a walking maze as part of this event in the future. Many festival activities will be themed around "maize" or "corn", such as a Corn Spitting Contest, Corn Cook-off, Corny Joke Contest, and of course, food such as corny dogs, kettle corn, roasted corn, and popcorn.

For Living History Day, more than 50 performers and presenters will be spread throughout the park surrounding the pavilion to both entertain and educate, including Aztec Dancing, Hispanic Heritage Tribute with Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox, chuck wagons and cowboy cooking demonstrations, teepees with Native American exhibits and stories, Texas heritage demonstrations, storytellers and oral historians, Texas singers and songwriters and many, many more. Billed as "Another Way of Learning Using Stories and Songs," this community education event also includes a teaching package for those interested. Central to the event will be the annual noon tribute to former Kerrville resident and "Father of Country Music" Jimmie Rodgers. Joel Guzman will add his accordion to this special tribute! Come and listen to the stories of Jimmie Rodgers as told by Tony Navarra while area musicians play Rodgers' legendary songs on stage. Food and drinks will be available for sale at the event. A take home educator's packet will be available to all teachers. Each year, thousands of students, teachers, parents and people from all walks of life attend Living History Day to experience first-hand the heritage, history, music and stories of Texas,. Friday evening at 7:30 the THMF will pay tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month by showcasing the music of Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox, recently featured at the 28th Annual Conjunto Festival in San Antonio.

The Medina Lake Cajun Festival features top notch Cajun Bands from Louisiana. For your enjoyment, the festival features two separate stage areas, the Fais-Do-Do & The Gazebo Stage. Entertainment on the Fais-Do-Do Stage starts with the Band-Aids Jazz Band. This group opens the festival with a spirited New Orleans Dixieland flavor. Big-name Louisiana Cajun bands on this stage also include T Broussard & the Zydeco Steppens and Bruce Daigrepont. Entertainment on the Gazebo Stages will include Rodney Thibodeaux & Tout les Soir and Cepryl Ballou. The "Great Gumbo Cookoff" pits amateur and professional chefs in a gumbo contest and visitors can sample the gumbo. Authentically prepared Cajun food items include crawfish pies, catfish, jambalaya, crawfish etoufee, red beans & rice, Cajun popcorn shrimp, bread pudding with whiskey sauce, and pecan pralines. Activities also include games and arts and crafts exhibitions. We offer free parking and free shuttle service to the grounds. The festival runs from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Lakehills Civic Center in Bandera County.

The 2010 Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) is September 30th- October 3rd, 2010. The early bird event on Wednesday September 29 will hopefully be at Threadgill's North or back at the Cactus Cafe so that all of the registered artists will have this additional opportunity to perform. The Official Showcase submission deadline is August 3.
