The Lois Alba Aria Competition is a presentation of Soma International Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to offering aspiring opera singers the opportunity to perform in public settings, such as concerts, galas and competitions in order to earn recognition and audience approval. Competition participants are judged by professionals in the field who offer career advice, direction and encouragement. Participants also have the opportunity to earn prize money in order to further their studies and careers in the field of opera. Semi-final Rounds: Saturday, May 1, 10:00am - 6:00pm; Finals & Awards Program: Sunday, May 2, 3:00pm - 6:00pm. Hill Country Run is hosting its annual motorcycle rally to bring you four days of live entertainment, local vendors, and plenty of Shiner Bock to go around. Registration starts on Thursday at 1pm-8pm so get signed up early. This year, the ralley will be held inside the beautiful Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park located just 3 miles south of downtown Fredericksburg, just off State Hwy 16 South. The Old Pecan Street Festival is a FREE, bi-annual arts and crafts festival held on 6th Street that has been an Austin tradition for more than 30 years. In addition to more than 250 arts & crafts vendors, the Festival also offers a variety of international and healthy food vendors, four music stages, carnival rides, and a children's art section. The show is also the primary fundraiser for the Old Pecan Street Association, an organization established to preserve and beautify 6th Street.

The Starlight Music Series is a free concert series sponsored by College Station Utilities and held at the Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater. Past artists have included Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Bo Diddley, The Bellamy Brothers, Trout Fishing in America, Vince Vance and the Valiants, Cowboy Mouth, Leon Russell, Gary P. The City of Cedar Park is bringing the 1980's back in 2010 for a special concert in the park on May 7th from 7 pm - 9 pm at Milburn Park. We are excited to bring Radiostar, which was voted one of the best performing bands in Austin in the 2008-2009 Austin Chronicle Music Poll. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets as there will plenty of area available, but don't get to comfortable in your chair as you will be sure to dance the night away. Food concessions will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own ice chest. Glass containers are prohibited.

What is Pickin' in the Pines? If you ask a musician that question, they will tell you it's "An Acoustic Jam Fest". This is the musically correct explanation. Music fans that attend year in and year out will tell you it's even more then that. It could also be called "Pickin', Campin', Vistin', Barbecuin', Story Swappin', Relaxin', Sippin', Strollin', and Listenin' in the Pines. It's a weekend event, so most folks arrive with tents or self-contained camper trailer and it's BYOB. Guitar, flute, banjo, harmonica, fiddle, and mandolin are just a few of the instruments to enjoy and sing along with. Bring your own instrument of choice or just come and be a fan. Greenhorn campers enjoy a hot water shower and restroom for the guys and gals. If you can't camp out, you're still welcome to "come and go" just for Friday and/or Saturday night concerts if that is your preference.

In 1974 a small group of enthusiastic Pasadena citizens gathered in a tent on a football practice field for the opening of the Pasadena Historical Museum and celebrated San Jacinto Day with the very first Strawberry Festival. Strawberries, famous for their size and sweetness, were the first big business in Pasadena, Texas. As many as twenty-eight train carloads of strawberries a day left Pasadena loading sheds going as far north as Chicago and Kansas City. These strawberries not only brought premium prices, but also earned Pasadena the coveted title "Strawberry Capitol of the South." Today, with over five hundred volunteers, the Pasadena Strawberry Festival continues to celebrate Pasadena's heritage on the 106-acre Pasadena Convention Center and Municipal Fairgrounds complex and attracts over 50,000 visitors. You, too, are invited to come enjoy three fun-filled days of activities, attractions and entertainment the whole family will enjoy.

The Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival is an award-winning eclectic arts and music festival featuring local, regional and national acts performing on multiple outdoor/indoor stages. Acts confirmed as of January 15th- .38 Special, Bowling For Soup, Vince Neil of Motley Crue, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Sweet, Carolina Liar, Le Freak, and Frontiers - The Journey Tribute Band. Also appearing at Wildflower in 2010 is Laserspectacular's The King of Pop - a multi-media tribute featuring the music of Michael Jackson. In addition, Wildflower! is home to one of the state's top Singer/Songwriter contests and stage. Our festival programming also features the Acoustic Café, the family-friendly Kidz Korner, the Budding Talents competition, the Taste of Texas Food Garden, a Battle of the Bands competition, the Art Guitar Auction, the Marketplace showcasing artisans and exhibitors, strolling buskers and acrobats, and the Wild Ride- a bike ride to benefit cancer research. Produced by the City of Richardson's Parks and Recreation Department with support from 10 other City departments, Wildflower! brings out the best in community spirit by involving over 100 neighborhood and business leaders in our various festival planning committees as well as utilizing approximately 1,100 volunteers during the actual event.

The Texas Music Awards are held each year to recognize excellence in Texas music. Sanctioned by the Academy of Texas Music, Inc. The TMAs present awards in fifteen categories including Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Singer/Songwriter, Album, Song, Record, Producer, Musician, Vocal Group or Duo, Rising Star, Disc Jockey, Internet Radio Station, Broadcast Radio Station, and Live Band of the Year. The Texas Music Awards are not a contest or a popularity poll, but rather a recognition of achievement voted on 70% by those who have received the awards in the past, 20% by the Academy members, and 10% by the general public. Past celebrity hosts include Michael Martin Murphey, Sonny Burgess, and Gary P. Nunn. B.J. Thomas will host the show and perform a concert after the award presentations. Red carpet begins at noon. Anthropos Arts is a local non-profit music education organization which brings Austin professional musicians into public schools, providing a series of free lessons and workshops to economically disadvantaged students. Local Austin I.S.D. students from the Anthropos Arts music education program will perform live on stage with members of Atash, Boombox, La Tribu, Vengo, The Grooveline Horns, Critters Buggin, Alex Coke Group, Austin Symphony and Lyric Opera, and many other local talents. The Pachanga Latino Music Festival is a Latin-themed music, cultural arts and food festival held at Austin's Fiesta Gardens May 21 and 22, 2010. Performers will include Tejano singer Bobby Pulido, Austin funk orchestra Grupo Fantasma featuring salsa star Larry Harlow, Colombian electro-tropical band Bomba Estéreo and San Antonio rockers Girl in a Coma. The festival, now in its third year, is expanded to two days for the first time. The event will kick off on Friday evening, May 21, with one stage of music and food. Returning on Saturday for a second year will be Niños Rock Pachanga, the interactive kids festival that will feature an Annie Ray photo booth, Latin-inspired crafts, and a kids stage with performances by Davíd Garza, Alejandro Vallejo and more.

The 2010 Fort Worth Opera Festival will include ancillary events along with the opera productions of Don Giovanni, The Elixir of Love, and the world premiere opera, Before Night Falls, which all will be staged at Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth. FWOpera was founded in 1946 and is the oldest, continually performing opera company in Texas and one of the 14 oldest opera companies in the United States. The company produces between three and four operas per season. The company revamped its mission and image in early 2003, and converted to a festival format, hosting its first inaugural festival season in 2007. Fort Worth boasts an unusual mix of western culture, urban sophistication and fine art. Downtown Fort Worth is a lively spot for residents and tourists; activities include fine dining, shopping, nightclubs and the opera house, Bass Performance Hall.

The Kerrville Folk Festival is perhaps the best known of all Texas music festivals. The National Polka Festival is the oldest festival of its type in Texas. Texas' finest polka bands, as well as popular out-of-state polka bands, play the polkas and waltzes that everyone loves. Events include a king/queen contest, parade, live music, arts and crafts, costumes, USATF certified 5k or 10k/one mile fun run/walk, and street dancing. Authentic Czech cuisine (klobase, kolaches, etc.) is available. The festival is held in three air-conditioned halls. Join the fun starting at 10 am Saturday with a gala parade. 13 live bands featured throughout the weekend. The Texas Fiddler's Contest and Reunion is held on the Courthouse Square in Athens as a homecoming for many people. In 1932, the Bethel community started staging a countywide fiddlers contest as a climax to a farmers' study course. Beginning early on Friday morning, pickin' and fiddlin' takes place all around the downtown square. Groups of people crowd around to listen while the players practice before the contest. Later in the evening, a professional country western band plays for the street dance. There are concessions and novelty stands along the sidewalks, and there's always a carnival set up just off the square. Please bring quilts or lawn chairs to sit on while listening to the music and renewing old acquaintances.
